Description

This laboratory test is ideal to test the amount of lead in paint. The use of lead in paint was banned in the UK in 1992, due to its toxicity. Lead was originally used in paint to accelerate drying, increase durability and maintain a fresh appearance. Currently the recommended international safety limit for lead in paint is 0.06% (recommended UK limit: 0.01%). In older buildings lead might still be present if painted prior to the ban and the amount of lead might be as high as 35%.

Each test checks one sample of paint, up to 1g (gram).

Once you have ordered on our website, we will send you a kit, which includes clear instructions as well as a pre-paid postage label and envelope to send the sample for laboratory analysis.

Detection Level: 1-40 mg/kg

Results: The test measures lead in very small increments of mg/kg (milligram/kilogram)

To convert:
– mg/kg to %, the result is divided by 10,000 (ie. 23000mg/kg = 2.3%),
– mg/kg to ppm, the result is the same, so 1mg/kg = ppm.

The report will provide the amount of lead measured in each sample in mg/kg, but it will not provide an interpretation of the test result. We recommend discussing the results with an expert in lead paint surveys, building contractors, architect etc to discuss what steps are necessary and what precautions should be taken.

The kit for laboratory analysis contains:

  • Clear step-by-step instructions on how to collect the sample(s),
  • Sample bags to take a sample of approx. 1 g each,
  • Pre-paid return packaging,
  • Analysis by an accredited laboratory.

Results will be sent per Email (to the Email address used in the order) in approx. 10-12 working days of receiving the sample.

  • We require a full sample to be able to perform the tests. Refunds will not be offered where minimum volume of the sample requirements are not met.
  • If you are planning to have more than 1 sample analysed, then all samples need to be taken and shipped to us for analysis at the same time. If you are planning on taking the samples at different times and/or places, then please place separate orders so that we can supply the correct amount of packaging & pre-paid postage labels.
  • Do not mix more than one sample per bag; please ensure one sample bag is used per sample outlet.

  • Failure to comply with the requirements for sample collection might result in a failed analysis of your sample. We can not refund orders where instructions have not been followed.

I have not received my order what do I do?

If you have not received your goods after 14 working days, then please contact us and we will chase your delivery. It is out of our control if delivery gets delayed due to postal strikes or natural disasters, however we will do our best to help solve any problems with lost items.
