Description

This UKAS approved laboratory test will check the level of  Total Suspended Solids (TSS) in various water sources and is UKAS approved for analysis of recreational, ground and surface water*.

Total Suspended Solids (TSS) analysis measures solid particles not dissolved in water, like silt, algae, organic matter, decomposing plants, bacteria. It is an indicator for clarity and pollution and a key parameter in water monitoring. A high amount of TSS can harm aquatic life by blocking light, hindering photosynthesis, reducing oxygen, smothering eggs, clogging gills and disrupting ecosystems. High levels are often caused by erosion, floods, industrial discharge and run off from fields.

Typical levels are:

  • Drinking water – very low, <1 to 50mg/l
  • Surface water – variable, 4 to 14mg/l in clean water, 30 to >100mg/l after storms and floods
  • Treated sewage – regulations often require level <35mg/l

Arranging a laboratory test is easy and our service includes everything required to carry out this analysis.

A high result indicates that your water may be contaminated with a high amount of decaying organic matter. It is strongly recommended to investigate this further as it can be a sign of pollution.

The kit for laboratory analysis contains:

  • Step-by-step instructions on how to collect the water sample,
  • Sample bottle to take water sample,
  • Analysis by an UKAS accredited laboratory,
  • Return packaging and courier collection are included**.

**Collection is Mon – Friday between 8am and 6pm. The collection should be booked 48 hours in advance.

Each order is shipped with 1x pre-paid return packaging; if you are planning on taking samples at different times/places and returning them separately, then please place separate orders.

Results: The limit of detection is 1mg/l. The report shows the test results in the appropriate measurement, like ppm, mg/l, cfu/100ml etc. Results will be sent per Email to the Email address used to place the order. Please note, that we do not provide interpretation of the test results.

Expiry: Water sample to be returned within 7 weeks of order date (unless otherwise agreed).

Please note:

  • We require a full water sample to be able to perform the tests. Refunds will not be offered where minimum volume of the sample requirements are not met.
  • Missing or incomplete paperwork & bottle labelling may delay the sample being analysed and may incur an admin fee of £10 (ex VAT) as it causes additional administrative work. We recommend taking a photo of sample paperwork so that a record is kept.
  • Where the return packaging includes ice-packs then these need to be frozen the day before the sample is taken and shipped to us with the sample.
  • Do not mix more than one sample per bottle; please ensure one sample bottle is used per sample outlet.
  • This service is only available for UK customers. If you are looking to place an order from another country, please do contact us.
  • Failure to comply with the requirements for sample collection might result in a failed analysis of your water sample. We can not refund orders where instructions have not been followed.

I have not received my order what do I do?

If you have not received your goods after 14 working days, then please contact us and we will chase your delivery. The quickest way is to contact the team by email (quoting your order number and contact details) or call us on +44 (0) 1933 664746 (Monday to Friday 9am – 5.00pm). It is out of our control if delivery gets delayed due to postal strikes or natural disasters, however we will do our best to help solve any problems with lost items.

We want you to be happy with your purchase but understand that sometimes you may need to exchange or return an item.
