Instructions for Use

This test kit contains everything that is needed to nd out if water contains any undesirable levels of 13 different contaminants. Please read the instructions carefully before beginning any of the tests. With this test, two different water samples can be compared (except for bacteria) to each other and the Desired Values.

Drinking water, which tests outside the desired values may be dangerous to your health.

The test strips are a safe, reliable, and accurate way to detect the quality of your drinking water. The chemicals used in each test
strip amount to about 3% of the chemicals typically used in powder pillow/ wet-chemical test methods, so the chemicals used pose no signi cant hazard as long as test procedures and precaution are followed.

For best results whilst using the kit:

  1. 1  Not recommended for children. Keep out of reach of children and

    pets. Choking danger.

  2. 2  Store the test kit at room temperature and away from direct sunlight

    and heat.

  3. 3  For the best results, use the test strips within their ‘use-by’ date

    where applicable.

  4. 4  Do not put the test strips or powder in your mouth.

  5. 5  Wash your hands before and after running the bacteria test.

  6. 6  Collect a fresh COLD/ROOM TEMPERATURE water sample for

  7. 30 seconds to 1 minute before collecting a sample for testing. Use test strips in a well-lighted area. Daylight is ideal, but not direct sunlight.

    1. 7  Be sure to follow each test procedure carefully as written.

    2. 8  Do not remove strips from packets until immediately before

      use. Keep them dry until dipped into the sample.

    3. 9  For best results, when matching strips with a hole (aperture), fold

      the white plastic handle of the strips under the aperture so it

      produces a white viewing background.

    4. 10  Under OSHA 29 CFR 1910.1200(d) the test strips can be

      considered non-hazardous so it should be possible to dispose

      of used test strips in regular waste.

    5. 11  Do not drink the water samples used for testing. Tested water samples

      should be discarded down a drain. After the bacteria test kit has been completed, some bleach should be added carefully, without touching the liquid (especially if the test was positive), to the bottle, then recap, mix and pour the mixturedown the toilet and ush.

What if my two colours do not match with the two colours on the colour chart?

The test pad colours correspond to 0.25 and 0.5 increments. If the pH reading is 6.87, then the result of the colour change would be slightly lighter colours colours than 7. In this case, match to the closest colour possible.

Sometimes, the readings can be in uenced by other substances present in urine or saliva, such as medicine, neutral salt, protein, colloid, alkaloid, organic solvent (like alcohol). In this case, it is better to use the reading of the top pad only (the one furthest away from the handle). In these instances, the top pad is more stable at performance than the lower pad.

Why can there be fluctuations in the readings?

Diet & lifestyle can in uence the pH. There can be a difference between your urine and saliva readings as a) your mouth is more likely to contain acidic bacteria throughout the day (if you brush your teeth it will show a very high alkaline reading due to the toothpaste) and b) because your urine is more of a re ection of the processes the body is undertaking to remove acids from the body – both of these are therefore subject to fluctuations.

Why do a ph Test?

The reading of the pH strip will give you an indication of how acid or alkaline you are. By regularly using pH test strips, you are going to be recording an average reading. Testing your pH on a daily basis is a fantastic way to see how you are doing and what effect any change in diet is having on your body.

Don’t worry, things can be done if you are too acidic. Making alterations to your diet and supplementing these diet changes with alkalising elements will help to bring your pH back to where it should be. Consider the help and advice of a health professional if necessary.
